Chairman of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah (retired)

LAGOS JANUARY 3RD (NEWSRANGERS)-Group under aegis of Concerned Officers has appealed To President Muhammadu Buhari to as matter of urgency relieve the Chairman of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah (retired) and the directors of their appointments.
A press statement signed by Musa Ahmed Yusuf for the Concerned Officers made available to NewsRangers disclosed that the Agency under Abdullahi has continuously retrogressed due to administrative callousness and inaction, adding that nothing has changed since they appealed to the President Buhari to save the Agency from decadence
.The statement which revealed that every NDLEA officer is three ranks below their normal placement requested that their ranks be fully restored, just as they recalled that dead officers were also cheated for not performing posthumously honoured for them.
“Other Agencies of government did promotion in December 2017 to enable qualified officers to enjoy their rightful cadre in the New Year. Our fear that Abdallah will take no action was again confirmed when he sent the old nominal roll for 2018 salary. The implication is that NDLEA officers will continue to collect the same old salary this New Year. It is obvious that even if he is allowed to complete his tenure the Agency will remain retarded. Why subject officers to this pain and frustration in a country that has numerous qualified and competent persons to lead the Agency aright,” the statement disclosed.
The statement which was sent to the office of Senate Committee on Drugs & Financial Crimes, House Committee on Drugs & Financial Crimes, Attorney General & Minister of Justice National Security Adviser, Ag. Chairman EFCC and The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) among other Agencies accused the Abdullahi of illegally diverting monthly impress on frivolous foreign trips.
“Mr President, since Abdallah’s appointment, it is on record that he only gave commanders a paltry imprest of N130, 000 naira to run their commands once in February 2016. How then is the monthly allocation to the Agency spent? Over 90% is illegally diverted into Abdallah’s frivolous foreign travels. The disbursement record of the Agency’s income under him will open up a can of worms. The non-provision of running fund to officers is the worst form of inducement to corruption,” the statement alleged.
The statement further explained that no fewer than sixty NDLEA officers have died from frustration and criminal neglect of their welfare with their entitlements yet to be paid by Abdallah.
“The souls of late officers and their neglected families are yearning for succour. Important issues like life insurance cover and intensive medical care for officers in view of the hazardous nature of fighting drug cartels have been neglected by Abdallah. The level of apathy has reached a stage where officers are disinclined to go for raid operations because of the unacceptable number of casualties. The labour of our heroes is now in vain as the agonies of families of late officers is constantly affecting our psyche,” the statement explained.
The concerned officers suggested that the in order to put the NDLEA back on the right track recommended that Abdallah should be suspended as the Chairman NDLEA in addition to the compulsory retirement of the seven Directors.
They equally suggested that a clinical probe of the financial recklessness of Abdallah by not paying imprest to commanders and the unjustifiable foreign travels should be executed.
They further requested for appointment of a more senior, confident and visionary person to lead the Agency and correct the career stagnation, just as they appealed for immediate harmonization, provision of life insurance policy, medical care, and better remuneration.
