According to Spanish paper El Mundo, Barcelona’s former president Josep Maria Bartomeu agreed to pay Lionel Messi €555,237,619 (US$673,919,105) in four years if a certain condition was meant.
Each year Messi agrees to sign on, he earns €115,225,000 for accepting the renewal and a ‘loyalty’ bonus of €77,929,955.
As for today, Messi has received €511,540,545 and he is expected to receive more millions before his contract runs out in June 30.
Offering Messi such a scandalous contract is frankly pathetic, knowing that Barcelona’s current debt is over a billion euros and players wages are responsible for almost three-quarters of the club’s budget.
This scandalous contract is the reason why Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid to Juventus. He felt he deserves what Messi was earning cause he has lead Real Madrid to three consecutive Champions League trophies along with other trophies.
But Real Madrid president Florentino Perez rebuffed Ronaldo’s request and sold him off to Juventus for €100m.
That brilliant decision from Florentino Perez is paying off today. Real Madrid is stable while Barcelona is on the verge of going bankrupt.
