Lekki Toll Gate Update : Lagos Mobile Court Grants Macaroni, 34 Other Protesters Bail

LAGOS FEBRUARY 14TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Famous comedian Debo Adebayo, Also known as Mr. Macaroni, was arraigned before a mobile court and granted bail.

Bail was issued to the youths detained by security operatives on Saturday for protesting against the resumption of operations at the Lekki tollgate.

On Saturday morning, the demonstrators gathered to protest against the decision of the Lagos judicial tribunal, which granted permission to the Lekki Concession Company (LCC) to resume tollgate operations.

More than 100 officers, including police workers and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), had previously been deployed to the tollgate on Friday evening in line with the Lagos Police Commissioner’s Order that no protest would be permitted to take place.

More than 30 young people were detained at the Lekki tollgate, where the protest took place, and arraigned in front of the mobile court in Yaba, Lagos. They were driven away in police vans and a “Black Maria” bus and led away from the tollgate by security operatives.

They were charged with breaching the COVID-19 protocol for public meetings and “breaking an order not to protest.” In the sum of N100,000 each, they were granted bail, with collateral in the same amount.
