Mexican Drug Cartel Storms Police Station Kills Three Officers, Injures Two, Abduct Four

LAGOS DECEMBER 14TH (NEWSRANGERS)-A Mexican cartel has killed three police officers, wounded two others, and kidnapped four officials including a judge in an attack on a police station in the city of Villagrán, Guanajuato.

Reports suggest that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel stormed the station after pulling up in three SUVs, of which one was equipped with a gun turret.

The bloody violence that ensued involved at least 15 gunmen and also saw a grenade chucked towards the building at around 8.30pm local time.

Since the attack, El Sol de Bajio has identified the slain police officers as Jose Trejo, Erendesis Villalpando and Enrique Alfaro.

Three of the four people taken hostage have been named as Maria Guadalupe, Jose Juan, and Pedro Antonio.

Gruesome images posted to Twitter showed the three policemen lying dead at the scene.

Eyewitnesses told that the assault, which lasted around 10 minutes, also saw the gang members drop a flag signifying their responsibility for the deaths, and set a tractor trailer on fire in order to disrupt the police from following their escape.

Guanajuato is well known to be one of Mexico’s deadliest states, and is a hotbed of cartel activity.

The Jalisco New Generation cartel is thought to be led by Nemesio Oseguero Cervantes – known as ‘El Mencho’ – and is currently embroiled in a war over an illegal fuel racket with the Santa Rosa de Lima gang.

Just last month, the leader of another cartel previously run by Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman, joined forces with the Santa Rosa de Lima to stop the growing influence of El Mencho.

The United States Drug Enforcement Administration is currently offering a $10m reward for information leading to the arrest of El Mencho.

In a video that showed the assault in progress, one of the men can be heard to say: “We’re here arriving in Villagrán. Just people true to Mr. Mencho.”

Another later added: “it’s the true four letters.”

That is a reference to CJNG, the initials of the cartel.

Then, brandishing an assault rifle, another of the men purported to be gang members can be heard to say: “Mr Mencho’s people. We just got here you son of a b****.”

Data released by the Mexican government in November showed that the state of Guanajuato has seen 2,865 confirmed homicides committed this year alone.

That makes it the deadliest place to live amongst Mexico’s 32 states throughout the first 10 months of the year.
