Obaseki Drops Oshomole’s Loyalists From New Cabinet


LAGOS JULY 3RD (NEWSRANGERS)-The cold war between the immediate past governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and his successor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, took a sharp twist on Wednesday evening when a statement from the office of the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Barrister Osarodion Ogie, announced the major cabinet reshuffle exercise carried out by the governor.
In the exercise Governor Obaseki dropped eight of his commissioners said to be loyalists of his predecessor, Comrade Oshiomhole while nominating six others said to be his trusted supporters to replace them.
Those that Obaseki dropped from his cabinet with immediate effect were Joseph Ugheoke, Commissioner for Energy and Water Resources; Magdalene Ohenhen, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development; Engr. Osahon Amiolemen, Commissioner for Infrastructure;Dr. David Osifo, Commissioner for Health; Mika Amanokha, Commissioner for Youths and Special Duties(cousin of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole); Mariam Abubakar, Commissioner for Budget; Barrister Emmanuel Usoh, Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Cooperatives and Employment and Dr. Christopher Adesotu, Commissioner for Science and Technology.
Obaseki’s loyalists that he nominated for appointment as commissioners are Damian Lawani(who despite the governor’s backing failed in his bid to return to the state legislature in the last polls) ; Joe Ikpea; Felix Akhabue; Moses Agbakor; Momoh Oise Omorogbe and Marie Edeko.
The newly appointed Special Advisers also diehard loyalists of the governor are: Kabiru Adjoto(who just lost out as the governor’s choice for the Federal House of Representatives seat for Akoko Edo constituency and who also just vacated his seat as the speaker of the 6th Edo House of Assembly); Magdalene Ohenhen; Osaigbovo Iyoha(who failed as the governor’s choice for the position of member of House of Representatives for Oredo Federal Constituency in the last polls and who just vacated his seat as a lawmaker in the last assembly); Andrew Momodu and Ojo Asien.
The outgoing commissioners were told to handover all government property in their possession to the Permanent Secretaries in their ministries.
Meanwhile, a few hours before the announcement of the change of guards in the cabinet of Governor Obaseki, members of the state Traditional Rulers Council led by the Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare 11, while on a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, had appealed for his intervention in the cold war between Comrade Oshiomhole and his erstwhile godson(Governor Obaseki).
