June 12: Soyinka, Dangiwa,Falana, Agbakogba, Others To Honour MKO Abiola

LAGOS JUNE 12TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Opinion leaders, activists, members of the civil society organisations (CSO), top government functionaries and others will gather in Lagos on Friday to pay homage to the late business mogul, Bashorun MKO Abiola.

The event which will be hosted by the June 12 Pro Democracy Movement of Nigeria is in commemoration of the JUNE 12 DEMOCRACY Day anniversary in the country.

According to a statement signed by one of the conveners, Che Olawale Okunniyi and made available to News express, the theme of the event is “June 12 in a New World Order: What Agenda for

Constitution Reforms in Nigeria?” will be chaired by the Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka.

The occasion will be moderated by Professor Anthony Kila with Gbenga Adeyinka as anchor person.

It will be recalled that Bashorun MKO Abiola died in detention during the struggle to actualise the annulled general elections held in 1993 which the business mogul was the perceived winner. In 2019, President Muhammadu post humorously hononoured Abiola and formally changed the nation’s  Democracy Day celebration from May 29 to June 12, the day of annulment of the elections in 1993 by then Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (retired).
