Maradona Remains Hospitalized As Condition Worsens Dramatically After Surgery

LAGOS NOVEMBER 7TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Diego Maradona, widely considered one of the all-time football greats, is suffering from complications caused by “episodes of confusion” developed after his surgery, according to his personal doctor Leopoldo Luque.
The Argentine football legend was initially admitted to a hospital in La Plata on Monday as a preventive measure, with the diagnosis at that time being dehydration and anemia. But subsequent tests revealed that he had a blood clot on the brain and the 60-year-old was immediately transferred to a major clinic in Buenos Aires for surgery.
On Wednesday, Luque announced that Maradona’s progress “continues to be really good” and that he was “very eager to leave” the hospital.  “We’re very happy. He can walk, he talks with me, he seems a lot clearer. Obviously, it’s still very early, but the recovery is excellent,” he beamed.

However, Maradona’s condition worsened dramatically on Thursday, which forced Luque to give up on the plan to discharge the former Naples hero.
“We saw that in the postoperative phase Diego had episodes of confusion,” Luque told reporters, adding that therapists had linked the behavior to “abstinence” and that the necessary treatment would last “a few days.”
Maradona, who has a history of drug and alcohol abuse and poor health, is currently the coach of Argentine first division outfit Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata. He has suffered two heart attacks in the past and contracted hepatitis. Last week, he went into self-isolation after one of his bodyguards started displaying COVID-19 symptoms.

Well wishes have been flooding in since the news of Maradona’s surgery broke, Argentina captain Lionel Messi was among the first to express his concern.

“Diego, all the strength in the world,” Messi wrote on Instagram. “My family and I want to see you healthy again as soon as possible. A big hug from the heart!”
