PDP Chieftain, Onuesoke Faults Lopsided Appointment Of EFCC Leadership

Chief Sunny Onuesoke

LAGOS FEBRUARY 26TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain, Chief Sunny Onuesoke has condemned lopsided appointment of Northern extraction as the Chairman of Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) since its inception during the tenure of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Onuesoke who spoke on the issue to journalists in Asaba,Delta State said reserving appointment of the leadership of the anti-graft Agency to Northern indigenes alone did not only negate the principle of Federal character as enshrined in Nigeria constitution, it equally put the Southerners in a position as if they have nobody that is qualify enough to occupy the position. Onuesoke who called on the Federal Government to re-organise the structure of EFCC so as to give Southerners a sense of belonging recalled that since the establishment of the ant-graft Agency by Obasanjo, Nuhu Ribadu took over the leadership of the Agency, followed by Farida Waziri, Ibrahim Larmorde and Mustafa Magu, adding that all those aforementioned Chairmen were from the Northern part of Nigeria.
He argued that the leadership of such sensitive organisation like the EFCC suppose to be rotated across the breath and length of the country so that some people will not feel the Agency is not set up to witch hunt and intimidate them.
“What is giving me concern is that why have Southerners not been appointed as Chairman of EFCC? Does it mean no one from the South is qualified to head EFCC? What qualification does it take to head EFCC that the Southerners do not have? Why must it be the prerogative of the Northerners to head the Agency?” Onuesoke queried.
