Tight Security As President Buhari Visits Lagos Today
LAGOS JUNE 10TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Security has been tightened across Lagos State as President Muhammadu Buhari is expected in the state on Thursday for project commissioning.
Inspector General of Police Usman Baba arrived the state on Wednesday ahead of President Buhari.
The PUNCH on Thursday quoted an anonymous senior police officer as saying Buhari’s “advanced team is already in Lagos and the President should be in the state if the weather is okay for flight”.
Presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad provided details of Buhari’s visit in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
“President Muhammadu Buhari will tomorrow, commission the 156km Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge railway line in Lagos, the first double-track standard gauge rail in West Africa, and the first Nigerian railway line to be started and completed by the same administration, since 1960.
“Construction started in March 2017, and test-running commenced in December 2020.
“The Ebute Metta Station, known as the Mobolaji Johnson Station, is the largest railway station in West Africa with a holding capacity of 6000 passengers.
“President Buhari is committed to developing a modern national railway network that will connect every part of Nigeria, and promote trade, travel, tourism, commerce and national integration,” Mr Ahmad wrote.
Buhari is also expected at the Energy Nature Light Terminal of the Apapa Port to commission the Integrated National Security and Waterways Protection Infrastructure, otherwise known as the Deep Blue Project.
His last official visit to Lagos was on April 24, 2019 to commission projects by immediate past Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
