2019: End Of The Road For Rivers APC As Supreme Court Strikes Out Appeal

LAGOS FEBRUARY 12TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The Supreme Court has finally shattered the ambition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to present candidates for the forthcoming elections in Rivers State.
The Apex Court on Tuesday struck out an appeal filed by the party challenging the judgment of a High Court in Rivers State which barred it from conducting any primaries in the state to nominate candidates for 2019 elections.
The Supreme Court judgement comes barely one week after same court stopped the APC from fielding candidates in all elections in the state as it upheld the ruling of the Court of Appeal and the High Court in Rivers State which blocked the primary elections conducted by the APC in Rivers State.
This decision by the Supreme Court, which is a big blow to the APC, means that the Rivers State APC will not present candidates on the Feb 16th National Assembly elections and the Governorship and House of Assembly elections scheduled for the 2nd of March.
There has been a tussle of factions in the state some loyal to Senator Magnus Abe and the other loyal to former Governor Rotimi Amaechi, now Minister of transportation, with both holding parallel primaries in the state and claiming authenticity.
This brings to closure the pressure on INEC to postpone the election in the state due to the legal tussle but the electoral umpire has insisted that the party will not feature on the ballot box in rivers.
