Covid-19: Omoyele Sowore Calls On Nigerians To Protest Against Lockdown

LAGOS APRIL  24TH  (NEWSRANGERS) Omoyele Sowore, convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, has called on Nigerians across the country to protest against the lockdown imposed by the Federal and state governments to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Sowore, who made the call in a series of Twitter posts on Thursday, dubbed the protest as “PPP: Pots Pans Protest Against Buhari”.

The protest is slated to run from 25 April to 2 May, with all Nigerians protesting from their homes by banging their cooking pots.

According to the human rights activist, he decided to organise the protest as the lockdown as intensified hunger in the country and has left the pots and plates of Nigerians empty.

Sowore, who is also the publisher of Sahara Reporters, an online citizen-journalism medium, urged Nigerians to protest in their numbers against the wishes of constituted authorities in order to prevent death resulting from hunger.

The #RevolutionNow movement convener was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) on 3 August 2019, ahead of a nationwide protest.

He was released after 124 days in custody, but rearrested at a Federal High Court in Abuja – less than 24 hours after his release.

He was eventually released by the DSS on 24 December 2019.
