Dickson Urged to Extend Public Service Reforms To Failed Contractors

LAGOS JUNE 26TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The Bayelsa state governor, Seriake Dickson have not only been given a path on his back by the public service reforms that had unraveled startling revelations of massive pay roll frauds , certificate falsification, rot in the civil service , multiple employments which has increased unemployment of graduates in the state and reduction in salaries and wage bills, but has been urged to extend it to politicians who abandoned projects after they most have been mobilized to sites of various projects.
A contractor, Ebi Egbe who also declared his total support for civil service reforms in Bayelsa state stated this while speaking to journalists during the town hall meeting at Oporoma in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
According to Mr Ebi Egbe also known as Moni Michele , he had transversed most states of the federation , but worried over the high rate of abandoned projects whose contracts were awarded to Bayelsans but abandoned them after collecting mobilization fees only to divert the money to pleasures at the expense of the impacts the projects were expected to have on the masses.
Hear him,”For instance go to the Northern states with low federation Allocation Account , they complete projects, but here in Bayelsa state abandoned projects dott every part of the state, who are these contractors , are they not Bayelsans , the governor should extend the exercise to these contractors”
Bayelsa state has been noted for the highest numbers of NDDC abandoned projects and the stats government has constituted a committee to verify the numbers of NDDC projects in all the eight local government areas headed by Dr Charles Ambaowe.
He described abandonment of contracts as also anomaly and crime which can also stall development which the state is yearning for . ” to abandon contracts of projects that are aimed at impacting the people is akin to most of the ills the on going public service reforms has unraveled in the state” I have not abandoned contracts awarded to me by Governor Seriake Dickson, he should also go after contractors who abandoned projects that littered the state” he boasted.
The just concluded town hall meeting organized by Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso- Markson has so far revealed that the state has gotten huge financial reprieve from the removal of ghost names from the payroll, discovered that banks are aiding financial crimes in the state public service and identified that current bank alert system were major cause of absenteeism , multiple employment, ghost workers syndrome and other anomalies bedeviling the state public service, payment of primary school staff at 9,315 with a monthly wage bill of N581million and payment of N611million to 6,078 secondary school workers as stated by the Commissioner of Education, Robinson Jonathan Obuebite. Also, the public service reforms has revealed that Bayelsa state government has recovered and saved whooping sum of N684 million from the Local Government Areas alone.
In a related development, the chairman of Bayelsa state Volunteer Parkins Ogede said the youths of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area are solidly behind the Civil Service reforms and urged them to shun pipe line vandalism, illegal bunkering, kidnapping and embrace the current employment of 1000 graduates, just as he advised them against be incited by politicians and vacate the water ways to enhance business in the creeks.
