Heart Breaking Story Of Former Super Eagle Player Who Got Blind And Went So Broke

LAGOS OCTOBER 19TH (NEWSRANGERS)- “Nobody Knows tommorow” they say. Now, I can actually agree to the fact that ” no one knows tomorrow”. As things are getting better for some, things are getting from bad to worst for some.

One thing is sure, there are bound to be Changes. Who would have given it a second thought that such a self_made millionaire would find himself in such a mess

The irony of life”. Now i can attest to the popular saying ” Life No Balance”.

Femi Opabunmi is a 33 year old former super eagles player who had played a vital role during his days as a footballer.

Femi Opabunmi, at age 16, he was once an U_17 player, where he played an unforgettable role in assisting Nigeria have an outstanding victory over Australia in the 2001 UEFA U_17 world championship as he scored an hat_ trick. Assisting Nigeria to defeat Australia 3 goals to nothing.

He Succeeded at the 2001 UEFA championship as the second highest goal scorer which earned him a silver shoe. He also won the bronze ball as the third best player in the tournament.

Though, Nigeria got to the final, in the competition, they lost to France in the final.

He was also one of the players who participated in the 2002 FIFA world cup. This fit made him the third youngest player ever to play in the world cup after Norman Whiteside and Samuel Eto’s

The nigerian Ex international couldn’t continue with his career as a footballer after he had eye problem. This hindered him from pursuing his career.

In an interview with BBC pidgin English channel. Femi Opabunmi, narrated how he became blind.

Here are his words :

‘ I just woke up one day and I just saw the cloud, I was not seeing well.

I went to the specialist and checked the eye, we went from one place to another before my career went.

I can’t play professional football again, because of my eyes, but i have to keep myself fit because it’s the game I love very much with all my life.

When I went to Grasshopper, signed a four year contract. After my stint at Grasshopper, I went to Happen Be’er Sheva in Isreal. I played just for some months; then i.crossed to France(Nior’l FC) for like one season when my eye problem started.

I saw a doctor in France, the doctor said my case was complicated and that they don’t understand everything.

I came down to Nigeria and started going from one place to another. Native doctor, anybody, I went there.

This eye tool me to so many places they don’t expect to see me there. The problem got worse and worse again.

In 2007, I came to Enyimba to see if I could play with one blind, to manage. But i couldn’t play with the blind eye’.

Souces have it , that the likes of Machester United and Lyon are already in move to sign him before he got blind.

Femi Opabunmi,.spent millions to ensure his recovery but nothing got better. This has rendered him broke .

In another interview , he said , in 2010 he went to see the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God , Pastor E.A Adeboye as regard his predicament. He said, Pastor Adeboye told him to praise and thank God for his life even despite his predicament. The fate he said he accepted and since then things have being getting better for him.
