Husband Remanded Over Alleged Attempt To Use Wife For Money Ritual

LAGOS FEBRUARY 11TH (NEWSRANGERS)-A Magistrate Court in Ilorin Magistrates on Wednesday remanded Usman Abdulkareem, a husband, at a correctional facility for allegedly conspiring with a local medicine man and a friend to abduct his wife, Mumeenat for money ritual.

It was gathered that Abdulkareem conspired with the medicine man, Babatunde Mohammed and a friend Fatai Adisa who was fingered in the disappearance of the victim at Abayawo area, Ilorin on Jan.6,2021.

The defendants was arraigned on a two-count charge of Criminal Conspiracy and Abduction in order to commit culpable Homicide Contrary to Section 97 and 274 of Penal Code Law.

Magistrate Afusat Alege who presided over the matter remanded the defendant at Oke-Kura Correctional Centre, Ilorin.

She therefore adjourned the case till Feb.24, for further mention.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Abubakar Issa told the court that the investigation conducted revealed that Abdulkareem was the one who called his wife (Victim) on a mobile phone to meet him at the second defendant’s house (Mohammed) around 5 pm at Abayawo area Ilorin and she was last seen entering the house.

The prosecutor added that the second defendant (Mohammed) however stated that he last saw the victim with Adisa.

He said that discreet investigation revealed that Babatunde Mohammed and Usman Abdulkareem are friends and have sometimes jointly obtained money under false pretense from unsuspecting woman.

He added that Adisa was seen with a polythene bag that contained meet suspected to be human flesh while he was arrested from Mohammed house at Abayawo.

He said further that Mohammed was a habalist who is dealing in using human for money.

He said that the investigation is ongoing while urging the court to remand the defendants in custody pending the outcome of investigation.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. (Daily Independent)
