IGP Again Shuns Senate Invitation

IGP Idris

LAGOS MAY 2ND(NEWSRANGERS)-The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has again shunned the invitation of the Senate.
The Senate had last week invited Idris over the saga involving the representative of Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye.
However, the IGP did not honour the invitation, sending the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations), Joseph Habilla, a situation the Senators frowned at.
They instead gave Idris a Wednesday (today) ultimatum to appear before the Senate.
However, between last week and now, Idris had issued two statements saying there was nothing wrong in his sending Habilla to stand in for him.
The statements, signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, insisted that the move by Idris was an acceptable standard by the Police Act and the Constitution.
When the Senate reconvened on Wednesday (today), it was Habilla that also showed up.
The Senate was in a closed door session as at press time.
