One Burst Into Flames As Two Air Force Fighter Jets Collide Mid Air


LAGOS SEPTEMBER 28TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Two fighter jets belonging to the Nigerian Air Force collided during a flying exercise as part of the 58th Independence Day Anniversary, the Air Force said Friday.
One plane was seen crashing and engulfed in flame around Mashafa Road in Area 1 of Mpape, Abuja following a collision.
A witness said earlier that heavy smoke could be seen rising from a mountain and that two pilots were spotted landing with parachutes.
NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola explained the incident in a statement.
“I wish to confirm that an air incident involving two Nigerian Air Force aircraft taking part in the rehearsals for the 58th Independence Day Celebrations occurred this morning in Abuja,” Daramola said in a statement on the Twitter account of the Nigerian Air Force.
