Congo DR Hold Super Eagles To 1-1 Draw In Friendly


LAGOS MAY 29TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The Nigerian Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw in their pre-World Cup friendly match against Congo DR at the Adokiye Amiesimake Stadium on Monday evening.
The home side were the first to score as defender William Troost-Ekong fire home his first international goal in the 14th minute.
However, a rash challenge from second-half substitute Ola Aina allowed the visitors to draw level in the closing stage of the match, as Ben Malango netted the equaliser from the penalty spot.
Gernot Rohr handed debuts to Simeon Nwankwo and Junior Lokosa, with Kelechi Iheanacho completing a three-man attack. While Oghenekaro Etebo and Elderson Echiejile returned to the side and Tyronne Ebuehi continued in the right-back position.
Nigeria is expected to play against England at Wembley next on June 2.
Five players are expected to be dropped from the 30-man provisional list for the World Cup before the England friendly.
