Election: Atiku Loyalists Plan One-Million -Man March Protest

LAGOS MARCH 1ST (NEWSRANGERS)-Loyalists of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate in the just concluded election are planning a peaceful demonstration in protest of the election results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
President Muhammadu Buhari, candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress, was declared winner of the February 23 presidential election having polled 15,191,847 votes to defeat his closest rival, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.
The INEC on Monday in Abuja presented a Certificate of Return to President Muhammadu Buhari, winner of the Feb. 23 Presidential election. The certificate was presented to the President by the Returning Officer of the election, who is also the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
But Alhaji Abubakar rejected the results, calling it a “sham election” and vowed to go to court. At a world press conference on Wednesday, he also urged his supporters to remain calm.
But his supporters have decided to embark on a peaceful protest to show their displeasure at the results declared by INEC. Chris Ekpunobi, Abuja Coordinator of the Intellectual Think Tank for Atiku, ITTA, one of the over 5000 Atiku support groups, told THE WHISTLER that his group was planning a one-million-man march across the country.
“We want to show our rejection of the presidential election results. We are planning a one-million man march to show our anger. But it would be a peaceful protest. Nigerians have spoken and they elected Atiku as president. But we believe the mandate will be reclaimed no matter how long it takes. Our principal has told us to be calm,” he stated.
Ekpunobi further disclosed that Atiku supporter are looking ahead to the governorship and state houses of assembly elections where they would make a strong statement with their votes.
Ekpunobi, a civil engineer, said his group campaigned for Abubakar because they believed he would “get Nigeria working again,” and bring unity to the country.
