Lagos: Mayhem In Obadore Community As Taskforce Battle ‘Area Boys’

LAGOS OCTOBER 19TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Pandemonium broke loose in Obadore community of Alimosho local government council area, forcing traders, commuters, students and other members of the public to run for their lives as operatives of the state Environmental Taskforce curbed the area for miscreants and other society misfits who allegedly attacked the operatives.
Trouble started when a day earlier, the miscreants had violently attacked operatives of the Taskforce in the area. In the ensuring faceoff several persons sustained varying degrees of injuries, shops were looted and businesses paralyzed.
According to eye witnesses, the operatives heavily backed up by policemen from seven divisions, comprising Ojo, Okoko, Ikotun, Igando, Idimu, Iba, Isheri and the Area M, command stormed the sleepy community in a commando style. No fewer than 20 suspects were picked up by a well-coordinated operation led by the Area M Commander, Mrs. Toyin Agbomijon.
Some of the suspects arrested were armed with dangerous weapons including axes, machetes, knives, cutlasses, broken bottles, charms, iron rods, clubs and intoxicants.
The motorists and okada riders were said to have protested the high extortion levy placed on them by operatives of the Taskforce and in reaction resorted to a violent protest, blocking the ever busy Iyana Iba-LASU- Igando expressway, thus crippling business activities. Hoodlums capitalized on the opportunity to loot shops and markets in the area
However, sources in the area said the miscreants only took advantage of the frequent raid of the area to visit mayhem on the area.
A source from the palace of the Baale, Muhhammd Ololade, Ilugbami 1 said the protesters should have taken their grievances to the Taskforce office in Oshodi or Ikeja and not in the peaceful community. Obadore is on the border line between Iba LGA and Alimosho LGA and serves as a melting point in both council areas.
