Tobiloba Amusan Emerges First Nigeria Athlete To Win Diamond League

LAGOS SEPTEMBER 10TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Tobiloba Amusan proudly becomes the first Nigerian to ever win a Diamond League since its inception in 2010. She bagged the victory in style by winning the women’s 100m hurdles event in Zurich, setting a new record for Africa as a continent.

Tobi Amusan claimed the African record of 12.42 to win the Diamond Trophy in the 100m hurdle race.

On her debut at the Diamond League in Paris, the African and Commonwealth Champion was placed 4th at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics competition and headed straight to the semi-finals finishing 2nd place behind Nadine Visser, even though both crossed the line at the same time.

Amusan in 2019 once again smashed a 20-year record at the African Games held by another Nigerian Gloria Anozie in the women’s 100m hurdles.

The Diamond League series sits in the top class of the World Athletics (formerly known as the IAAF). It’s a one-day meeting competition.

The Competition welcomes the best amongst others of the track and field events.

This year “Diamond League Champion” was awarded a Diamond Trophy and USD 30,000 in prize money as well as getting a slot to participate in next year’s World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA.
